Predominantly composed of chromium, the duplex steel plates of grade 2304 are known to be free of molybdenum. The deficiency caused by the reduction or elimination of molybdenum from the chemical composition is filled by the increment in chromium and nickel. The increase in the two anti-corrosive elements, chromium, and nickel, has enabled the plates to imbibe and enhance corrosion resistance properties against pitted and crevice corrosion. The alloy is characterized by the presence of another essential element involved in the corrosion resistance property, namely, nitrogen. The incorporation of nitrogen improves the yield strength and defends the alloy against corrosion.

The temperature range through which the Duplex Steel 2304 Plates can efficiently operate is commendable. The thermal stability possessed by the plates allows them to face elevated temperatures as high as 300℃ and cold conditions with temperatures dropping down to as low as -50℃. Another form of resistance accompanies the improved heat resistance, which is corrosion resistance. The plates display excellent anti-corrosive properties, even better than those of 304 and 316 austenitic steel plates. This characteristic enables the alloy to prove useful when surrounded or submerged in liquid, solid solvents, and acids without falling prey to any corrosion. The yield strength of the plates is another noteworthy trait that makes them lightweight while providing them with the toughness necessary to prevent stress corrosion.
With the wide range of properties comes an even wider range of applications for which the duplex 2304 steel plates are actively used. The leaves are used in pressure vessels, chloride-containing environments, the food industry, mining, desalination plants, acidic solutions, organic acids, water treatment, transportation, the paper industry, storage tanks, etc.
