UNS S40900 Stainless Steel is a ferritic steel with excellent mechanical properties, specifically designed to withstand high-temperature environments. It is commonly referred to as Chromium stainless steel. The 409 Sheet and Coil are widely used in exhaust systems and other weldable applications. The inclusion of niobium, titanium, or both elements in the steel plate ensures optimal performance. Grade 409 Stainless Steel surpasses 410 martensitic grades with its 12% chromium content and exhibits superior resistance to exhaust gas and corrosion. Despite having less corrosion resistance compared to grade 430 steel with 17% chromium, the surface of grade UNS S40900 stainless steel sheet is moderately resistant to corrosion, limiting its use in structural applications.
Our Stainless Steel 409 Coils offer scaling resistance up to temperatures of 675°C in continuous performance and up to 815°C in varying intervals. Moreover, the 409 Stainless Steel Sheets remain unaffected at temperatures ranging from 790 to 900°C before being air-cooled. SS UNS S40900 Plates do not harden through thermal treatment. Consequently, prior to welding, 409 SS Sheets must be preheated to temperatures ranging from 150°C to 260°C.
