Stainless Steel 409 Sheet is a ferric steel sheet with excellent oxidation resistance and fabrication properties. The stainless steel 409 sheet has a nominal 11 percent chromium content and titanium and low carbon levels, which aid in preventing austenite development. The annealing procedure on these stainless steel sheets helps to keep them pliable. The steel’s titanium helps keep it stable and prevents it from hardening during welding. It also aids in the prevention of chromium carbide production. The SS 409 sheets have enhanced formation and ridging due to excellent chemistry and heat treatment preparation.
SS 409 Sheets come in thicknesses ranging from 0.015 to 0.250 inches and widths up to 48 inches. SS 409 sheets provide enhanced toughness and weldability for welded applications over 0.120 thick.

Grade 409 Sheets have similar overall corrosion resistance to Type 410, although it outperforms carbon steel components throughout most situations. Top layer inclusions are common in Grade 409 of SS products due to titanium additives. Red rust may occasionally appear at certain inclusion locations, resulting in aesthetic deterioration. As a result, these steels aren’t recommended for situations where aesthetics are important.
