Majorly composed of nickel and chromium, along with an enhanced amount of manganese, the stainless steel 201L plates are primarily known for their lower amount of carbon. This lowering of carbon grants additional grade resistance against corrosion. A higher proportion of carbon is said to promote carbide precipitation on the alloy, which is mainly responsible for speeding up the process called corrosion. Since the carbon content is lowered, so is the vulnerability of the 201L plates to rusting. Apart from this significant perk, the stainless steel 201L enjoys all the properties displayed by the 201, being stronger and more cost-effective than other grades.

The plates which fall under the 201L grade of stainless steel are equipped with excellent weldability and formability. These characteristics allow the plate to be welded to the desired temperature while making it easier for them to undergo machining. Having these traits makes it possible for the 201L plates to undergo both hot and well-cold treatment. The resistance displayed by the plates is also well known, with liquid solvents such as acids and oils coming under the corrosive agents. Besides, they have also demonstrated their efficient functioning capacity in an oxidation environment without falling prey to oxygen attacks.
