The ferritic stainless steel 409-grade stainless steel plates are non-hardenable due to their distinct microstructure. The plates’ chemistry involves titanium, chromium, nickel, and other secondary elements present in minuscule amounts. Titanium is an element responsible for stabilizing the mixture of elements in the alloy and, therefore, improves its functioning in stressful situations. On the other hand, chromium and nickel are primarily responsible for the resistance the plates display against corrosion. With the right balancing of these elements, the plates can manifest both toughness and remarkable resistance against corrosive agents.
The thermal stability of the stainless steel 409 plates allows them to function at elevated temperatures in stressful conditions. The thermal stability of the grade contributes to its weldability, due to which the plates possess good weldability. Unlike 405, the grade in consideration possesses ductility and need not be subjected to post-annealing welding to enhance flexibility. Corrosion resistance is also an impressive property of the plates, which allows them to operate in the presence of chlorides, sulfides, and organic acids. However, using this grade is not applicable for applications involving surface appearance since rusting might deteriorate the way the plates look. The plates can resist oxidation in oxidizing environments, which is superior to most of the other stainless steel grades.

Owing to the heat stability and the non-hardening properties of the stainless steel 409 plates, they are used in catalytic converters, automotive thermostats, electrical transformer cases, mufflers, automotive exhaust tubing, fuel filers pipes, heat exchanges, tubular manifolds, etc.
The products we manufacture are always subjected to tests to check if the quality of all the products satisfactorily meets all the quality criteria, and stainless steel 409 plates are no exception. All the plates we fabricate pass through tests and inspections, with certificates being provided.
