Unlike other grades, the carbon content of SS 420 Plates is significantly higher at 0.15% min. The increase in carbon content is not the only increment in the chemical composition, chromium is also increased significantly. With the incorporation of carbon in the alloy, the hardness displayed by them is improved, and so is the strength. Chromium, on the other hand, enhances the resistance exhibited by the plate against pitted, crevice, stress, and intergranular corrosion. Manganese is another element present in the plates and which is responsible for their toughness. Silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur are the other constituents present in the plate which are responsible for stabilizing them.

Stainless steel plates belonging to grade 420 exhibit corrosion resistance which is exemplary. The resistance of the plates against corrosive agents is also exhibited against oxidation. The hardness and toughness of the plates are also superior to similar grades, and this strength is what helps the plates to function in stressful situations characterized by physical strain. Elevated temperatures can damage ordinary metal alloy products, but when 420-grade plates are used, the soaring temperatures have no effect on the plates as they possess thermal stability and heat resistance. The weldability of the plates is reduced when it is hardened, and the plates have the ability to be hardened up to 50 RHC.
Various industries employ grade 420 stainless steel plates for various functions due to the mechanical and chemical properties they possess. Some of the applications of the grade in consideration are surgical equipment, needle valves, cutlery, and shear blades.
The tests we conduct on the 420-grade stainless steel plates include mechanical and chemical tests as well as radiographic tests, pitting corrosion tests, etc., after which only those products which satisfactorily clear all the tests and quality criteria are dispatched.
