Known as an iron alloy, stainless steel is categorized into different grades, all of which have some differences, either in the physical structure or the chemical composition. In the case of grade 405, the difference lies in the chemical as well as the physical structure of the plates. Physically, the plates are considered to be ferritic. They belong to a class of stainless steel plates that cannot be hardened by heat treatment and can only be hardened slightly by cold treatment. The chemical composition of the plates contains an additional element in trace amount, namely, aluminum. The presence of aluminum and 12% chromium, along with the balanced mixture of all the other elements, stabilizes the grade and grants it access to various useful properties.

A stainless steel grade belonging to the 400 series, the 405 stainless steel plates are known for their non-hardening characteristics. This feature allows the plates to prevent hardening as the temperature cools down. Apart from the non-hardening characteristics, the alloy also possesses good weldability, and it is advisable to conduct post-annealing welding on the alloy to increase its ductility. The plate’s corrosion resistance property against chloride ions, alkalies, organic acid, and nitric acid is commendable. However, it should be noted that the plates cannot resist the actions of vigorous acids such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and even seawater. Machining the 405-grade plates can also be carried out easily because of their excellent machinability.
The properties of stainless steel 405 plates are actively utilized in quenching racks, partitions, annealing boxes, steam nozzles, and other fabrications which cannot be annealed after welding.
With the quality of the product being the topmost priority, we conduct various tests on the products we manufacture before they are dispatched to the clientele. Inspections and certifications are also carried out periodically.
